Job Vacancy: Assistant Professor in Vaccine Burden
The Maternal and Newborn Group within the Faculty of Epidemiology and Population Health, linked to the MARCH Centre at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor.
As Assistant Professor, the post holder will be responsible for developing an international research portfolio towards a comprehensive value proposition for the development and first use of GBS (group B Streptococcus) vaccination. The proposition will be on the basis of a thorough assessment of the burden of disease and economic impact of GBS, and the costs and gains that can be expected through vaccination.
This programme of work is expected to spur investments into the full development of candidate vaccines, and inform the public health community on the key aspects of further R&D, as well as implementing and tracking progress in routine programmes. With close links to key stakeholders such as the World Health Organization and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the work has a high probability of having major impact on maternal and child mortality globally.
The post holder will work closely with Professor Joy Lawn and Professor Mark Jit, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and will be responsible for developing a high-standard programme of methodological and applied research in the field of economic evaluation of vaccines and immunization strategies in the UK.
The successful candidate must have a PhD in a relevant subject such as health economics, statistics, epidemiology or a quantitative social science. They should also have excellent research team management skills involving supporting colleagues in the team and in the field as well as an excellent publication record in high-impact academic journals.
Experience in designing and implementing economic evaluations such as cost-effectiveness analyses, ideally of infectious disease and/or maternal and child health interventions would be an advantage.
The appointment is based in London at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. It is full-time commencing on 1st February 2018 until 29 September 2020. Salary will be on the Academic Pathway, grade 7 scale £44,978-£51,490 per annum, inclusive of London Weighting.
